Grange road Recycling Centre
In drafting the article in the March newsletter we misunderstood the information provided by Hampshire County Council. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
Since 1st October last year Hampshire County Council (HCC) has been making the following charges:
Based on a number of media reports HCC has decided to charge for the disposal of DIY waste despite the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) pledging to take action against councils that charge residents for such items at recycling centres.
Apparently this dispute affects a number of local authorities. Councils argue that the legislation requires them to dispose of “household waste” free of charge but they say that “household waste” does not include DIY waste. The DCLG disagrees and says that there should be no charge for the disposal of DIY waste.
Following a request for an update from our MP we have been advised that HCC have no new information and the DCLG will not be giving an update until they make a decision.
